Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder Celebrates 50 Years

The 250 GT California Spyder is believed to be one of Ferraris greatest accomplishments and even one of their more celebrated models. Ferrari enthusiasts and many others can remember when it was displayed in the famous movie ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’.

This year marks the 50th anniversary for the Spyder and it was celebrated in one of the biggest events of the year – the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. To celebrate the Ferrari was given its very own class.

Six variations of the supercar were created and all of them were on display on the 18th fairway. Along with these new models was the original prototype as well as a competition version that raced during the Le Mans and Sebring.

The 250 GT Spyder was first produce in 1958 where only 105 of the models were produced. According to Ed Gilbertson, Chief Judge at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and a Ferrari expert, “The Spyder California was a factory-built road car that you could drive to the track and race. We’re bringing together examples from around the world – from people who don’t often show their cars – to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime display of Ferrari legends.”
