Ferrari Starts Young Driver Development Program

All of the F1 racing teams are becoming increasingly competitive and are therefore on the lookout for better drivers that can carry their teams to a victory. Most often we have seen the small teams scout for talent all across the world. While the larger teams would buy off the talent from the smaller teams.

It is a round robin and for years it has been that way. But now things are changing and people are getting desperate. This is in partial due to McLaren’s new superstar - Lewis Hamilton. He has taken the tracks by storm and now the teams are scrambling to find someone great using different resources.

Ferrari has launched a young driver development similar to the one that Honda, Toyota, McLaren, and Renault use to find good drivers. Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali and Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo announced the new program last week. Scuderia will be offering test drives to the three top finishers in this year’s Italian Formula 3 championhip - Mirko Bortollotti, Salvatore Cicatelli, and Edoardo Piscopo.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo said: “For every generation, Scuderia Ferrari is a symbol for all those who have a passion for racing. Looking to the youngsters and to the future, I hope this initiative can contribute to the development of young drivers and also to the regeneration of motorsport in our country.”

Gino Macaluso, president of the ACI-CSAI, added: “One of our stated duties is promoting young drivers and I an grateful to Luca di Montezemolo for having shown such enthusiasm in offering a great opportunity to three promising hopes of Italian motorsport.
